CPT Control Unit POPOFF news

Many will wonder why this new power unit was developed.
Surely the question will not be asked by Abarth owners with stage1 stage 2 or stage3 modification

The main and only reason is that POPOFF does not open, or opens late This almost always happens after making changes to the supercharger

Why does the pop-off open with a long delay ?

Because it produces the classic intermittent puff, audible from the ‘intake, which being almost always free reproduces this flicker very loudly.

This sound is called TURBO FLUTTER ( STUTUTU )

Many blaming the POPOFF valve ( original or not ) question us.

After our explanation they understand the nature of the problem.

Which is all focused in the valve opening signal, which the (car’s) ECU sends out late, relative to the actual need for opening.

This abnormality is usually caused by a few factors, not necessarily all of which are present and intrinsic to each other.

These can be:

ECU programming. ( and here I deliberately don’t go into it )

From the fact that there is now a +big turbine, where before with small turbine at 1500 rpm already there was pressure present in the pipes, detected by the sensors, now there is no more. or at least it is very low, not detected, but enough as an amount and pressure to go back when releasing accelerator.

From the sensors, which are often ( not to say always ) replaced with others of a different scale.

And of course not lower, but higher. so the low pressure is not detected in the correct measurement.

At this point we can understand the strategy implemented by the control unit, which, not having confirmation of proper pressure to justify opening the valve, sends out the valve opening signal late, or even does not send it at all.

All it does is follow a more-than-correct operating logic set up originally.

The air going back over the turbine blades will cause the classic intermittent puff of POPOFF not opening or opening late.

This sound many people may like.

Certainly not to the turbine, which by continuously receiving on the impeller “slaps ” in opposition to its natural direction of rotation will have to succumb to an early and abnormal slowdown.

Of course, this happens at low engine rpm, as after 3000/3500 rpm when the turbine fills the pipes with air, this situation will gradually fade until it disappears.

At this point our new control unit comes into play.

This by exploiting and processing the signals from the original valve supply and the throttle signal completes an opening and closing phase control strategy, faithfully following the driving style adopted.

This is made possible by reading in addition to the above signals, the speed and reaction times with which the accelerator pedal is pressed and released.
